Dr. Oleg Tozoni





Dr. Oleg V. Tozoni was a well-known scientist, a specialist in the field of Electro-dynamic and Electrical Engineering. Since 1964 through 1988 Dr. Tozoni was the Head of the Department of Electrodynamics at the Cybernetics Institute of the Academy of Science, USSR.
After immigration to the USA in 1989, Dr. Tozoni worked as a Visiting Research Professor at the University of Maryland, Department of Electrical Engineering.

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Dr. Tozoni received a M.S. and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from Novocherkassk Polytechnical Institute in 1951, and 1958 respectively, and Doctor of Science (a Post Doctoral degree) in Electrical Engineering from Kiev Polytechnical Institute in 1965. He was a member of Editorial Board of COMPEL - International Journal for Computation and Mathematics in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Consultant to the Science Application Institute of Electronics, Warsaw, Poland from 1985 to 1988. Prior to emigration from the USSR, in 1989, Dr. Tozoni was also a member of Editorial Boards of publications of the USSR Academy of Science: Teoreticheskaya electrotekhnika and Electromekhanika.


MAJOR RESULTS OF SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

1. Invented three Types of the New Constructions of the Linear Synchronous Motors based on:

Permanent Magnets with Extendable Poles;
Superconductive Magnets with Continuous Acceleration;
Self-Screening Superconductive Magnets

with all of them allowing to change the speed of the rotor under the constant frequency of the power supply and applicable to the Maglev Transportation Systems (obtained two US Patents).

2. Created New Principles of the Stable Hovering of the Heavy Bodies in the Magnetic Field of the System Comprising Permanent Magnets and Iron Cores. On its basis invented the following devices:
 
Magneto-Dynamic Suspension;
Magnetic Levitation Self-regulating Systems, allowing to suspend stably heavy bodies in the magnetic field and applicable to the Maglev Transportation System, Magnetic Bearings;
Launching of the Rockets, and many others (obtained six US Patents).

3. Worked out a New Computational Method of Secondary Sources for:

Static Electric and Magnetic Fields;
Low Frequency Electromagnetic Fields in Long Parallel Bus-bars of Arbitrary Cross-Sections;
Three-Dimensional Quasi-Stationary Electromagnetic fields in Inhomogeneous Non-Conductive Media.

4. Created a New Electro-dynamic Network Theory for:

Computation of Electromagnetic Fields and Processes in Strip-Lines of High Frequency Devices;
Protection of Underground Extensive Constructions from Circulating Currents;
Leaking from Railway Systems.

5. Developed a Mathematical Model of the Physical Structure Boundaries with Minimal Distortion of External Static (Electric or Magnetic) Fields.

6. Developed Principles of Techniques for the Best Utilization of Combined Analytical and Numerical Methods for Calculation of Processes Running in Different Kind of Electromagnetic Devices.

7. Created a Mathematical Model for Conformal Mapping of Singly and Doubly Connected Regions of Arbitrary Shapes.
